Not as important as "kittens are coming" or our sweet Taz but here's an uppydate.

The vet visit went well. Dr. Singh doesn't know why the furloss; he doesn't think it's from the renal failure. He suggested adding Omega 3 oil to his food which I've started tonight.

He gave him his fluids for today and showed me how to do it. I also tried putting in the needle and it was a piece of cake. Max meowed at bit and I'm sure it hurt him a bit but he was a good boy during the fluid treatment.

The bad news is that he's lost some more weight in the last 10 days since he last saw the vet. The results from the stool sample will be a couple of days, but again, Dr. Singh doesn't think that parasites are present.

I'm leaving on an early flight on Friday morning and won't be back until Monday (this was planned months ago and flight is non-refundable). Max is in good hands; I have some wonderful catsitters but they won't be giving him the fluids but I'm sure he'll be just fine. When I get back on Monday I'll start him on a regime of fluids every night for the next couple of weeks then go and see Dr. Singh again.

I've got all my bases covered and I'm confident Max will be OK while I'm gone. Rest assured that this is the last trip I will every take now that Max is failing. I will be spending all my time now loving him and making his quality of life the best it can be.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Yes, this is important. Max is very important.
I hope we will both see improvements in our little guys here soon.

Taz and I will be thinking of you and Max. (and have a safe trip this weekend)
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Good to hear that you were able to master subq's so quickly and easily. Max will be a different cat w/the treatments, believe me. You have a wonderful and safe trip and try not to worry about Max. He'll be fine and so will you.
    Blessings,
    Mary

I'm glad the vet visit went well and you find it easy to give Max the sub-q fluids. I'm sure he'll feel a lot better after! Sorry that he has lost weight though.

Slick, have a great trip and try not to worry. Max will be OK a few days without the fluids.

    (((hugs)))

Prayers and a candle for Max and for you too, Slick.
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

I would even go so far and say that Max is just as important as Filou is. If he got fluids for some days this week I think he'll be fine until you come back. And maybe it's not daily fluids for him. You know Filou is on weekly fluids for 4 years now while we were away he only got it 2 times in 3 weeks. He lost a little weight ( about 150 g) in the first week but got most of it back in the 2nd and 3rd and is now at his 2940 g- which he keeps for close to a year now. He has been at 2700 end of last year when we were so afraid to lose him.
So these are the ups and downs of purrents with a kidney kitty- but you will do the best for Max and he will have more quality time with you.
