Well! Things have been pretty awful since I last wrote. I got a big abscess in my neck from scratching too much, and had to go trade it in for itchy stitches, a drain, and an awful cone around my head! And the cone scratched my naked skin, too. But my human just kept rubbing the emu oil on me, not just my bald spots, but the stitches and around the drain, and now that the cone is off, the scratched place on my neck too.
So far, so good. My incision healed up very well, and my fur is all growing back. My ouchies are still fading away, and my human still lets me lick plenty of the oil off her fingers in between rubbing. She was glad to have it handy when I had to go to the whitecoats, since it's supposed to be good for postsurgical treatment too.
My diet's still restricted, so my skin's gone all flaky without my 3-V caps. She seems to think that letting me lick the emu oil will help with that too, since it has some of the same ingredients. She's started putting "fiber" in my food again, since I had a tummyache, and hopes that isn't what I was allergic to... I'm a real puzzle, I am. It's really hard to tell what's helping when there's so much going on. But so far it looks like emu oil is at least better then hydrocortisone for keeping me nice and fluffy. What she really wants is to start putting Cosequin in my food again, to protect my urinary tract, but first she has to make sure the fiber is OK and doesn't make me start itching again. And it takes weeks for any effect, good or bad, to show up when it comes to allergies!
So - I don't know what's going on, and neither does she, but I'm feeling much better. Oh, and I get tuna-flavored drops twice a day now! She calls it "amoxicillin" and says that when we run out, I won't get any more, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. I really do love my human, and she loves me with all her heart, but sometimes I confound the heck out of her brain!
