In my experience, they charge for everything whether you want it or not. I am always told to take things with me because I'm getting charged for it.
Example: With each knee surgery, my doctor ordered a cryocuff for me. It's a sleeve that ices the knee. I left one at the hospital because I already had two of them and it was cumbersome to carry out with my other items. They charged me anyway. I am still kicking myself. Because my insurance company paid for it and I could have given it to people that I know that would love it.

After seeing an itemized bill, it is so shocking, this could be one of the reasons they don't tell you beforehand. They don't want to be responsible for the repercussions.
