Thread: Ratties....

  1. #16
Oh I forgot about that, lol!

Both sexes can be very sweet and loving. Rats who are handled since birth (such as my babies) are more socialable. There are many factors that go into what makes up a rats personality. Rats who are bred mainly for money have no consideration put into how they are going to act when they are older. Certain traits such as being mean and bitey can also be passed down, same as if the rat is very friendly. I only breed the friendliest rats, even if they are gorgouse rare colors they will not be bred if they have even an ounce of meanness in their body.

As for which sex is the sweetest, there is no comparison. Males tend to be less active and more apt to cuddle. Females are the same but they just have more energy and love to explore. My does are just as cuddly as my bucks, they just like to check things out a bit more. Also bucks are more territorial so some people prefer does over bucks, to avoid fights etc.

I love both sexes and would say both are equally amusing, loving and cuddly little guys.

Some people also think dumbos are more laid back, it's just the illusion caused by their ears. Because they are cuter, people automaticaly assume they are friendlier. Because they are handled more often (because people find them cuter) they tend to be more tame.

    HEy,
Thanks everyone for the information!!!My mom makes ferret hammocks so that wont be a problem there.....I was thinking about getting two females because I have always had troube with Male critters......For my Guinea Pigs I use Critter Care as bedding which is just like Care Fresh just the cheeper stuff....O yes my biggest problem about getting Rats isnt the dogs or cats..but ferrets and Guinea Pigs....My moms ferrets would eat my rats...Mervy and Daizy have a reputaion of unlocking their cages and getting out..just the other night(2 0r 3 am) I woke up face to face to Diazy she opend her cage doors.....If I got 2 rats they would stay in my room of course....but we have Guinea Pigs that we rescued up for adoption so Im going to have to wait on the ratties until the 5 guinea pigs find homes.......and im keeping my 3 Guinea Pigs Mrs.Missy,T-Girl/Boy,and Mr.Piggy......So there are things that im really having to consider before getting a rat....

Cages-At PetCo they have these really neato cages that are two story and come with all kinds of clear diffrent colored tunnles.....But wouldnt just be cheaper to look for some in the papers and buy tunnles at pet shops?I was tihnking it would(I look for the cheep stuff )
Food-What kinds of veggies or fruits do rats eat??

Do rats get along with Guinea Pigs?I dont mean by putting the rats and Guinea Pigs together but if I was to have the rats and GPs in the same room the rats wouldnt go crazy or anything trying to get to the GPs would they.....

    Well Thanks!

If you go back there is a link I posted to my site that has all the info on what type of veggies and fruits a rat can have. I also listed a few things.

Guinea pigs and rats can get along. In fact my rats used to get out all the time and I would find them snugglng in the guinea pigs cage with the guinea pigs. They would sit there and talk to achother and everything. It was prety amusing.

But then again, my rats and cats sleep together too so....

But of course you would always want o tbe careful when introducing different species. Rats hate hamsters, mice etc and will kill them. I have never had any bad luck with guina pigs but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

But please read my my food page.

I have no clue how a Guinea Pig and a rat would get along, but I do know one thing for sure- rats and chipmunks don't mix!! LOL- just thinking about the story makes me chuckle.

I'd give you some info, but Luckies4Me is the best person to listen to, so I won't give ya none of my crummy advice.

Yes I would thin chipmunks and rats do not go together either. They don't really like anything besides guinea pigs for some odd reason. My rats were in love with them.

It is VERY unlikely that you would catch anything from your rat.
