Would you go out into bear country when the salmon are spawning and the boars are looking for a mate? Brown bears are smart, Ive heard stories of them coming into an area after bear spray has been used. They will circle around and come from up wind, or is it down wind. I have had bears in camp less then 20' from my tent.

Im not Timmothy Treadwell, and Im not going to wind up like him. Im also not going to stop going out into bear country.

People in Anchorage and Eagle River jog carrying handguns, and not because they fear being mugged.

The area I live in now is for the most part safer then the area of Anchorage I last lived in. In Anchorage it was easier to chase off the hookers and get the Hells Angel's to deal with the drug dealers. The Mat Su Borough, where I live now is also the meth capital of Alaska and it is an area larger then some states. If I didnt have the dogs Ild probably own more guns. Dogs are a bigger deterent for break ins then firearms.

Good picture of Obama. but really you should give credit to the NRA.
They love to scare folks into buying more guns by spreading fear. They
laugh all the way to the bank.

That is a good questions. After all:

""It's something that they need to assist them in daily living," says Matthew Carmel, president of Constitution Arms in Maplewood, New Jersey, which hopes to manufacture the Palm Pistol - now just a patent and specifications.

"The justification for this would be no more or less for a [walking aid] or wheelchair, or any number of things that are medical devices," he says."

Come on, daily living?!? Same justification as a wheel chair?!?

FDA approves handgun for the handicapped

Single-shot gun designed for those crippled by arthritis,
    muscular dystrophy ...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted a conceptual, ergonomic 9mm handgun —
designed for people crippled by arthritis, muscular dystrophy, or similar conditions
that render them too weak to operate normal handguns — as a Class 1 Medical Device.
The single-shot gun, dubbed the Palm Pistol, is "an adaptive tool
that allows someone otherwise incapable of handling a revolver or semiautomatic weapon
to operate one," said Matthew Carmel of Constitution Arms,
the New Jersey-based company developing the gun.
Thanks to the gun's designation as a medical device,
doctors could eventually write prescriptions for it and then be reimbursed by Medicare.

    FDA nixes proposed ‘prescription pistol’

    By The AP:
WASHINGTON - It could have been the world's first prescription pistol.
The single-bullet Palm Pistol set the Internet abuzz with speculation that Medicare
might even pay for the elderly and disabled to pack heat.
But on Monday the Food and Drug Administration said the Palm Pistol
doesn't have a shot of being listed as a medical device, and
revoked the registration issued to its inventor only last week.
"The FDA has determined the product is not a medical device," the agency said in a statement.
... FDA spokeswoman Siobhan DeLancey said Carmel apparently
got some bad advice from a representative of the agency.
And maybe he should have paid more attention to the fine print on the registration notice.
It said: "Registering ... does not, in any way,
constitute FDA approval of your facility or your devices."
An earlier version of this article reported that the FDA had accepted the Palm Pistol
as a medical device, based on last week's registration.

Great news! I was really afraid we were going to have to start testing the plastics these are made from in our chemistry lab!! AS hard as I am on the chemist's sometimes, I'd hate to arm them with medical devices!!!

Like the media would allow any poor picture of Barry to be published.

As LH pointed out the NRA dosent profit from gun sales.

The NRA, Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership, and Gun Owners of America are profiting from a surge in their memberships because of the news of the next AWB, the talk of higher taxes on ammo, and that first time gun buyers are up 30% to 300% depending on the part of the country reporting.

Very few gun stores are not jacking up their prices due to demand. Impactguns is out of stock on many of the firearms that will fall under the possible coming AWB, they still have the exotics, NFA weapons, and weapons that are simmilar to but not subjected to the last AWB.

If the talk of the new AWB does come to pass, and I see no reason it wont, it still wont affect weapons that fall under the National Firearms Act; ie machine guns, silencers/suppresors, short barrel rifles and all other weapons will all still be legal and taxable. It wont protect you from people with illegal or controlled weapons that are in their possesion. It wont protect you from people who are carrying illegally. Many citizens, maybe not you and yours, will be in more danger because legal firearms will be taken off the streets and out of homes.
