I don't carve them either (shame on me), but I just sit them on the porch with my scarecrow man and some mums each year.

Here's one for the "what are the odds?" category:

My niece bought a pumpkin and took it to "pumpkin class" where she and my SIL were taught how to make several fancy ones. My niece placed one of them on her porch and, after an incredibly windy night and unbeknown to her, it blew off the porch into the driveway and she ran over it the next day!

I tend to fixate on things much more than is healthy when I am sick. I have a bad cold today so I poured quite a bit of effort into carving these things I went a little bit overboard.
