Oh my gosh Karen, you are actually the only other person on earth except me and my family that I have heard use the word "Piffle". I can't believe it. My grandmother used to say it, and she lived in Iowa most of her life before moving to Hawaii in her 70's. How great! Even though "piffle" is in the dictionary, I thought that word was dead. No one I have ever met knows what we mean. We always laugh when we say it to each other, our family fun word.
Gosh, I knew I had an odd vocabulary - my mom was a writer, and I come from a long line of English teachers on her side. I don't even know where I know "piffle" from - it's just one of those words I've "always" known! Rest assured, neither piffle nor courtesy are truly dead!
