Today's OC Register (a newspaper to the right of WSJ CSM and Fox News -- put together!) had a editorial about the success of presidents compared to their prior government experience.

Some of the points made in the article - Obama already has more government experience than 3 of the 4 guys on Mount Rushmore. Only Jefferson had more government tenure.

Some of the poorest performing presidents - James Buchanan, Nixon, Andrew Johnson, had extensive government experience.

Teddy Roosevelt had a year as Assistant Navy secretary, 2 years as New York governor and 6 months as vice president.

The writer concluded with a quote from George Bernard Shaw..."Men are wise in proportion, not to their experience, but to their capacity for experience."

Thanks for the link Sara. I read the local paper also but it has very little
coverage of political or world news commentary. I must search it out online.

Gosh, I really miss Molly Ivins these days. I did find an 2006 column she had written. I re-read it just for the wit & humor.

    Oh, that is precious!

Does this apply to that fat beesturd they want to execute?

They should let him experience death, he does have proportion.

Wrong thread RICHARD. There is one about the execution elsewhere. Try and stay on topic!

Once upon a time there was a Asian restaurant in So Cal named Sam Dang Ting's.
A writer for the Auto Club newsletter, who wrote about the eatery asked the owner about the name of the establishment, and what it meant, the owner told him that it meant the Sam Dang Ting in English.

    Politician?
    Criminal?

    Sam Dang Ting!

The Obama plane problem I posted about last month was a lot more serious
than officials made known at the time. Wow, that would have changed
    everything.

You'd think that both these idiots would have learned thier lessons about talking to 'men of the cloth'.

Between the stuttering, the amused look on the codger's face and the smarmy pastor's "slickness" I lost interest rather quickly.

Leave it to some self proclaimed religious Cuckoo Clock to put together a self-promoting event at his own 'church'.

    Morons.

    --------

LOL, did anyone ever find out about the idiots who interrupted the BO speecha a few weeks ago?

    -------

Betcha BO had the windows open on the plane and his ears caught the wind....emergency? I should say so!

I'm sorry you feel this way Richard. I have read Rick Warren's book and it gives one plenty of food for thought as to what is important in life and why we are here in the first place. He is a gifted writer and teacher and he and his wife are doing good things for children who have become orphans through HIV/AIDS in Africa. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Story?id=3983833&page=2

I am having trouble with your description of him as a *righteous cuckoo clock.* I guess only in the next life will we able to see who was righteous and who was not. "Judge not lest ye be judged."

I agree that there are many TV preachers today who have no message other than "let's all feel good and get rich." Rick Warren is not one of them. The Evangelical vote is important to both sides so I believe it was important for these two men to open up as to where they stand on some issues that may not seems important to others but are to evangelicals. It was a more personal two hours than we will see in the upcoming debates, and I will be watching those as well.
