MAJOR rant inside about people who return my fosters!

Jen, sometimes it is just good to vent and get it all out!!! People are just stupid!!! Too bad there is not a way to find out during the adoption process, exactly when in the future they will get weird, and then not allow them to adopt!!!! You and the rescue work so hard to find good homes and aren't most happy with their cats? I think so, it is just the wacks that are never happy....

Some people are lazy owners. Sorry you had to deal with them.

I had 4 cats back in 2002 when I got my Lab. Was it love at first sight? Absolutely not. I trained and taught him on how to behave with my cats. Now they sleep together.

You cant blame cats for not wanting a huge dogs mug in their face. Most cats behave very well around a dog whos been trained to live with cats. It just takes effort, and some people wont input any.

Its sad because if their that lazy, the dog will be next to go when they dont put effort into him

It's so frustrating, Jen, and you are sooo right with everything you said! Don't know why so many people are like that! Before I adopted Lily, I agreed with her first humans that I would bring her back in case things don't work with Luna. No way I would have given up the older cat who lived with me for 3 years at that point. But it's true, you often hear stories where it's the other way around.

And you also seem to be right that dogs count more to some people than a cat! Maybe they think cats are easier to adopt.

Well that bites the big benooch. My group has a return policy too, but if a cat is returned for anything other than a VERY good reason, they are put on a do-not-adopt list which is shared with other groups. Once in awhile there's a cat who doesn't fit in for whatever reason; this usually happens quickly and an exchange takes place. This has happened to me a few times. But I had a situation similar to yours when the family adopted one of my cats, then got a pug, and the pug was picking on the cat, so they returned the cat.

GRRRR Is right!!!

Callie and the cats still don't see things in the same way. They hiss, growl, and swat - she barks, leaps, and dives. Its a circus around here and everyone is stressed from the whole production. Does that mean I'm going to toss the cats out on the street just because they aren't adjusting to an energetic puppy? Ummmm.... not on your life! Its only been 2.5 months! These things take time! I don't think I'll ever see the warm and cozy images of the cats cuddling with Callie but I'm praying they at least don't hiss and run at the mere thought that she's even within a 15 foot radius.

Ha, in the time it took me to write this, Callie was hissed at and swatted by Harry. He's currently sitting and glaring at her while she's sitting like a doggy statue watching him.

So Jen, ya want to come over and visit? You can witness this spectacle yourself! and if I had enough of the hissing, growling, swatting, and hiding, you can take Pouncer back (you'd have to pry him from my dead body though!!!!)

If you did dog rescue, you could rant about the people who return the new dog because the cat doesn't like it. Trust me, it goes both ways! And it's aggravating and heartbreaking no matter the species! I hope the returnees will find the purrfect home very soon.

While I do realize that "it works both ways", in your statement at least the older resident cat is allowed to stay, not the new addition. Seniority should account for something.

My two dogs would rip my pusscat to shreds given the chance which is why she is safely upstairs in her own room with a stairgate and the door closed at all times! Pet ownership needs constant work that some people just don't get

Well, that was a typo. Seniority often counts for nothing with those who dump pets. I've had dogs come back years and years later. Not much demand for ten year old big black dogs! I currently have a dog who dumped at 14 in need some of basic medical attention. A golden retriever puppy showed up at her old home about the day she was taken back to the shelter.
