    other than that ...

Ummmm, had a huge flood-control project that works - the little league field within it has to wait for the waters to recede past home plate many years, but no homes are affected ...

    Rock Springs, Wyoming ....

    1. Where Butch Cassidy got his nickname ... he worked in a butcher shop here

    2. Home of the world's largest pronghorn antelope herd and the USA's largest trona deposit (trona is a mineral mined as an additive for glass, fertilizer, laundry soap, etc.)

    3. The location of the Chinese Massacre in the late 1800's, where Chinese immigrants working to build the UP Railroad were chased out of town and their villages burned (whether any were actually killed is debated)

    4. An infamous "60 Minutes" report in the 1970's about the crime rate during a boom we had. Gained us our lovely nicknames of "Sin City" and "Murder of the Month Club". Defending a sheriff accused of murdering an undercover narcotics agent during this time was the start of the now nationally famous "cowboy lawyer" Gerry Spence's career.

Not particulary flattering things ... but it's all we've got.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam

"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

    -University of Iowa
    -Pedestrian Mall and fountains
I think that's about it, not too exciting, but still probably a nice place to live. I didn't live there long, but I visit a lot.

    detroit michigan...born, oh a ...while back...*GRIN*
    1-cars,
    2-motown,
3-founded in 1701 by the french explorer antoine de mothe cadillac
4-north, yes north of windsor ontario canada
5-since canada day is july 1 and independance day is july 4,detroit city would pay for windsors holiday fireworks and windsor would pay for detroits fireworks, a nice gift to each other. as a child, i loved seeing the fireworks 2 times in one week, two picnics and singing "Oh Canada" loudly as we could so our canadian neighbors would "hear" us
    columbus ohio...*CURRENT HOME*
1-park of roses, a mostly volunteer run park that smells like heaven in late may to mid june and again in late september to early october
2- excellent municipal library system, with a very easy easy to navagate web site
3-really nice system of metro parks with many educational programs
4-the health care system in columbus is first rate. the 3 major health care systems are very competive with each other, one public-ohio state university, and 2 privately based, ohio health (methodist church based) mt carmel health (catholic church based), but collectively give several million dollars of free/reduced health care as part of their mission. i work for one system, so i have an opinion about which one is 'best', yet i would not worry if my mom was being helped by one of the others.
