It sounds like backwards/reverse sneezing. A lot of small, especially Toy breeds, get it. It can be caused by a myriad of things, but you usually just have to wait it outMy Peke used to get it a lot when he got stressed.

My sisters beagle does the hacking when she drinks.Nothing to worry about.
I don't have any solutions for you but I just had to say Molly the beagle is a real cutie patootie![]()
Hi. My name is cathy. I hack all the time for apparently no reason, but it doesn't seem to bother me a whole lot. I still run around and chase bugs and have fun and stuff.

Don't worry, it is likely just "reverse sneezing." My beagle used to do it to, very frequently actually, and I would think, "Oh no! He has kennel cough!" Then eventually I called my vet and was reassured it was likely just this "reverse sneeze" thing which sounds like hacking and snorting. I took him to the vet anyway and sure enough my beagle was just reverse sneezing and this is very common in beagles. They gave him a cortisol shot (or something??) and said that would help his breathing a lot and would prevent him from doing this all the time, and it has worked very well. They said he could get one of these shots every 6 months or whenever needed, but Hector hasn't needed once since his first one. Hope this helps![]()
