Awe... poor Aroara. I hope that the fever comes down and the swelling will go away. I'd hate to think of her having to have something on her face lanced.. ouch!

I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers and hope that she'll be better during the time while you're gone so you won't have to worry so much about pilling her.

I know your vet is officially 'closed' - but surely there are patients there who have to be medicated and watered and fed?

See if they will board Aroara til you get back...I think she and you will feel better.

And we can do a little fundraising here!

I hope that the new antibiotics will help her and that she starts feeling better and recovers quickly. If she's still on the pills then maybe you could have one of the vet techs come over to your home to give her the pills or like Catty1 said you may be able to just leave her at the vets and some one can stop in and check on her and give her the pills. She'll remain in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't know which antibiotic Aroara is on but you could ask your vet if they could give her a Convenia injection. It is a rather new injectable antibiotic made by Pfizer that is similar to Clavamox. It's one shot and equivalent to 2 weeks of giving pills two times a day. Tiger has had it quite a few times and I think Freedom has used it on her pets as well.
Your vet may not have it just like mine didn't when I asked about it but they said they could call a nearby clinic and 'borrow' some which they did. They were really impressed with it and ordered some in and are administering it to lots of patients now. I guess it would depend on the type of antibiotic he wants her to be on. Here is a link to the Convenia website.

If that's not possible, maybe you could give her a dose on the morning that you leave and on the night you return so there would only be 4 doses missing inbetween (if she gets them 2 x per day). And hopefully by then she will be willing to take a pill in a pill pocket that your pet sitter could give? I break up the pills in half and give them in two pill pockets so there's no chance of them biting down on the pill.

Glad to hear that her fever is down and that she is eating a little bit! That is awesome!!!

I'm going to see what they tell me when they send her home about having to have more pill forms of antibiotics. If they want her to continue on them, I will definitely ask about the injection. My one concern would be that with the Clindamyacin her fever kept going up and that a different antibiotic wouldn't work and I'd be gone and not know. There is a place that boards animals, where I take them to be bathed, that charges $10/day I think it is. She'll give medicine to animals. If pills are prescribed for Aroara, I may check into having her boarded there. As long as cats are kept away from all the barky dogs. Aroara would be scared out of her mind. And with the holiday weekend, I'm sure she's going to be pretty full. I had thought about boarding Morgan and not having to have a petsitter, just leaving self water and feeders for the other guys, but stress increases Morgan's sugar levels and I don't want to take a chance on having to put him back on insulin. Thanks for all the suggestions! The vet closes at noon tomorrow, so Aroara should be home by then. Of course I have 2 houses to clean and a hair appointment almost an hour away, so who knows what time I will actually get to be home.

ETA: I just talked to my mom, who was the one that talked to the vet's office yesterday when they changed the antibiotics. She said that the pill is only given to her once/day. So if I could pill her by myself Friday morning, and then have help when everyone gets back Sunday night, she would only miss maybe one pill if she wouldn't eat it from a pill pocket. hmm
