I don't have any pictures of my first cars, just 'fond" memories. The ugliest was probably "Bill."

"Bill the Car" was a 1974 Maverick that was originally light blue, with a brown driver's side door and a black roof that was flaking off, and maroon primer on both rear fenders. Eventually, Dad found a can of paint that said "light blue" in the basement, turned out it was screaming sky blue!

When "Bill" was rearended one night, as I was asleep, There ended up pieces of sky-blue bondo all over the street, which I gave away as souvenirs.

When I was a teenager in the 60's, my dad bought an old car and this thing was such a rust bucket, as parts fell off, he'd replace them but they never matched. The hood was bright red, the fenders were different colors and so was the trunk. School busses didn't run where we lived, so my dad insisted on driving me to school. My maiden name is Rhome, so, of course, the kids made fun of that car and would yell "Here she comes in the Roman chariot!" They got a good laugh until the temperature dropped below zero and the snow came down and their parents didn't drive them to school. My dad offered them a ride w/me and that put an end to the snickers. To my face anyhow.
    Blessings,
    Mary

    Whoa!

You weren't in the car asleep, were you?

I almost bought my BILs white Maverick. Glad I didn't...Bondo, you say?

    Medusa,

Well, I guess you can't use the story about walking to school for miles in the snow?

No, my sister uses that one. She was married by the time I was born, except in her story, she walked uphill both ways.

Forgot to mention that the best/worst feature on the Roman Chariot was the doorknob on the hood. Apparently, Dad felt that it added something to the car's cache.

No, I was upstairs in the house across the street, asleep. I never even heard the collision happen, but I am a very sound sleeper. Although when I first called the police department, they said they had no accidents reported for the night before, my car, which wasn't even parked nearest the (bad) intersection, was more than a foot shorter than it had been when I left it. We had to wedge my snowshovel into the back seat sideways, but Dad came out, tied the bumper back on with clothesline, checked all the lights (which miraculously worked), made sure the gas tank wasn't punctured, and declared it totaled by insurance company standards but driveable as long as I was careful.

That happened on a Friday morning. When I called on the following Monday morning for a copy of the police report that I had at least called it in, the person said, "Wasn't that car part of the 5-car accident that morning?" Sure enough, everything was there and documented, and she had no idea why nobody told me so on Friday. Sigh.

I agree with comments about the Honda Element - FEH!

My mom and I both nicknamed it the 'Honda Elephant'.

There are current cars that I don't care for but what if a fellow pt'er owns one? I sure would not want to offend anyone.

It's not the people - it's the cars. Hey, if you need a vehicle and something is a good deal, you get it.

It can be CUTE, an ugly car, if it is your own.

Well some people take that kind of thing personally so I am not going there, there are a few cars that are not my taste though.

We have always called it the Honda Elephant, but thinks that it looks more hippopotamus-like in reality.

It's a car most people buy for its functionality, not its looks.

I'm ALWAYS the wierdo in any vehicle conversation. I obviously have very strange taste in cars. I rarely like the "popular" vehicles, and tend to own or want the "oddballs". At the moment, for example, I own three cars ... all of them are some shade of purple. One is VW Super Beetle and one is New Beetle. I almost bought a Karmann Ghia at a yard sale last weekend, but my DH vetoed that.

I think Elements are cute ... but I only like the ones where the fenders are the same color as the car, I don't like that gray plastic look. I also think the Scions and Xboxs are so cute.

I really, really want a Mini Cooper S.

As for what I think are ugly ... I have never seen the appeal in the Chevrolet Avalanche or the Cadillac Escalade. And I think Vibes and Aztecs are SO ugly. My friend is in the market for a 70's Buick Rivera Boat Tail. OMG, I am speechless ... those were SO ugly.

Pacers and Gremlins have got to win some prize for ugly cars, and of coure, there is the VW Thing. WHAT was that?? LOL

I love the Smart Cars - they are SOOO cute! And, apparently, quite durable. Heard of one guy who took his from Calgary to Guelph and back, and it ran great! Would love to have a red one and put black spots on it and some antenna! LOL Smart Ladybug!

When I see one coming, I don't know whether to get out of the way or stick out my leg and trip it!

    But as a Monster Car????
