Randi, Lut too, I'd never seen a coloured moth before and thought it was a small butterfly, it was only when I searched for identification that I found out exactly what it was. Maybe a lot more of the insects I think are butterflies are really moths.

Like many other brightly coloured moths, it is unpalatable; The larvae absorb the bitter tasting to the alkaloid substances from all the ragworts including groundsel which it feeds on, and assimilate them, becoming unpalatable themselves[1]. The bright colours of both the larvae and the moths act as a warning sign so that they are seldom eaten by predators.
