How fun that the AKC is accepting this long-established breed at last!

I've Been Frosted
The breed club has to work long and hard to gain that recognition. Good for them.
The 2 dogs in that link are hilarious, but especially the male. "Gullible and protective of his family." Um, not a great combo, I have visions of him protecting them from a flying leaf! Te hee
.
I didn't even realize the AKC didn't recognize this breed - I can tell them from a mile away! (lol) Seriously, as long as these guys have been around? - makes you wonder why it took the AKC this long.

WOOHOO finally, and yeah about time; at least they aren't accepting crazy designer breeds, but a legitimate breed! Good for them!
EDIT: I searched and it said the breed was approved in October 9, 2007?? Still recent but does approved mean accepted necessarily or is this just something different?

EDIT2: Ahha I see, it was approved on Oct 9, 2007 but it wasn't open for registration and competition until July 1, 2008Makes sense to me now!!
http://www.akc.org/breeds/dogue_de_bordeaux/news.cfmFrom the October 2007 Board Meeting - The Dogue de Bordeaux will be eligible for AKC registration and for competition in the Working Group, effective July 1, 2008. There will be an open registry for the breed until August 31, 2012.
Recognized yes. But at this time, and since Oct. 9, they have been shown in the Misc. class, and not eligible for championship points. As of July 1, they will be shown as a working group breed, and eligible for championship points.
IIRC, the breed first gets accepted into the foundation stock program, then is eligible to be shown in the Misc. class, then is eligible for ch. points in its respective group.

There's an awesome DDB at my Bark Park! Silly and gentle. Gives lots of slobby kisses. A real sweetie pie.
I've been Boooo'd!
I love Dogue de Bordeauxs!I can't wait to see them at shows....right next to the Neapolitan Mastiff. Whoohoo!
I've actually only met one Dogue, and that was at a petstore. This was before I had Chloe and I was going through puppy withdrawls so I went to go play with some of the puppies in the store. I saw the Dogue, asked to hold it, and I fell in love. That poor dog was so sick (nose was runny, eyes were runny, had poop stains on its feet/hind end, dandruffy coat, and stunk to high heaven), but such a sweetie. Even though I'm apposed to purchasing dogs from petstores, if his price tag had been lower he would have come home with me. Instead, I have a fuzz ball for a dog. LOL
