Thread: gas prices in your area?

We hit $4 a gallon a couple of months ago but it came down quickly. Now it's around $3.79 a gallon. I use my Giant Eagle card and, by the time I'm ready to fill up, I usually get $.80 or more off a gallon because of the $.20 per gallon discount. Sometimes I fill up nearly for free. I don't eat out often and I entertain a lot so I cook a lot and that gets me more gas perks.
    Blessings,
    Mary

The cheapest here is around $3.65/ gallon. I always buy the lowest grade, so I have no idea what the other kinds are- way more expensive I guess!

I paid $3.99 for regular unleaded yesterday (Cook County, but in the suburbs). The closest filling station to where I work, which is in Chicago, was at $4.19.

    $1.35 per litre.
Given that there are 3.78 litres to the US gallon and that our money is almost at par, that would translate to $5.10 per gallon.

What I don't understand is...Gas is gas, plain and simple. So why does it cost higher in some places and lower in others?? I know there are taxes, and CT is THE highest taxed state in the union. In my opinion, gas should cost the same no matter WHERE you get it.

I also think the Governor of CT should cut the residents here some slack on the CT gas tax as it IS high, at least for the summer so people can go out and enjoy the weather. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

    *sigh*

Gas ISN'T gas (Thank you EPA for not coming up with a formulation that works adequately everywhere).

There are many different blends required by area. The gas you buy in LA isn't the same as the gas you buy in CT. Different additives are required, along with different oxygenation compounds, etc., depending on which EPA area you are in. Last time I looked (it's been a while, haven't really looked into it since the last gas price spike) there were 50 or so different formulations required.

A gas tax holiday sounds nice, but it's political feel good BS. The money (much like the "economic stimulus" money) is going to have to come from somewhere else to pay for the "holiday". Being that the government produces nothing, they have nothing to pass the costs on through, so BINGO.....we wind up paying higher taxes elsewhere to cover the gap left by the "holiday".
