Sara Tucholsky got a lift from Central Washington's Liz Wallace, left, and Mallory Holtman

Rule clarification
As one of the umpires involved in the game between Central Washington and Western Oregon confirmed in an e-mail to ESPN.com, the rule in question was misinterpreted on the field after Tucholsky's injury and later clarified by the NCAA.
According to page 105, rule 8.5.3.2 of the NCAA softball rule book, "If an injury to a batter-runner or runner prevents her from proceeding to an awarded base, the ball is dead and the substitution can be made. The substitute must legally touch all awarded or missed bases not previously touched."

She could have had a pinch runner finish the homerun 'trot' for her, but it was a super gesture for the other team to help her out!
Wow thanks for sharing this! Being a softbal nut (I played for years until my eyes went bad lol) I really apriciated reading this story
I wish more sports players were this well...sportsWOmanlike!
There was discussion on local radio and TV that this is typical of women, but something male athletes would never do!
Great story Richard - thanks for sharing it.
Had that happened in a 'guy's' game there would have been different results-depending on the level and age of the guys involved.....
In a pickup game, it probably would not have mattered.
In a Little League game, there would have been chaos.
In a high school spondored game? Arguements and possibly fighting in the stands.
Professional game? Pray it never happens....Rioting in the stands and on the streets, people killed and some kind of lawmaker intervention.

This is not to say women are not competitive! I think that women can be more into a game than any man could ever be....
It's just a matter of having cojones.
Women look at winning or competition as the reward.
Men look at it in a totally macho way- A woman washes her hands after sports. Men paint their faces and chests with the blood of the vanquished foe.![]()
