Seems you and the Mayor got enough funds to get going on this.

    Fifty minutes left...OMG!

I might have to catch up on my overdue letters or something!

    Paul - you're a gem. THANK YOU.

I understood that. I was just trying to figure out what *I* was going to be doing!

Hope all goes well and we see everyone again really soon!

Well, folks, we are back up and running, but still on the old server for now. After 9 hours, things still were not working. We will try again next Friday night, May 2, 2008. It will take at least 7 hours then.

Our goal is to not only move Pet Talk to the new, faster server, but to update it to the latest version of the vBulletin software as well. Thank you for your patience.

So next Friday, May 2, at 10 PM Eastern Standard Time, we will try again.

Goodness, does Paul have any hair or fingernails left? I hate when a plan sags. Thanks for all the work you are doing for us!

    Oh, NUTZ!

Poor Mr. Paul ... ... It's a durty, rottin, SHAME when a Gud Plan falls apart
    with a dose of Reality!

Any idea what the major *Bug* in the process is/was?
Do the V-Bulletin Folks offer any live assistance to help out?

We'll say Stronger Purrayers next Friday!

Paul was able to identify several of the things that went wrong, and has plans to avoid the same problems next time. It's just a tremendously complicated process, so any "bug" can have a domino effect on the whole thing.

And, Sandy, he always has his nails trimmed down tight, so there wouldn't be anything to bite even if he was intending to, and he still has all his hair!

I just now saw this - no wonder I didn't get any PT messages in my e-mail - I wondered where everybody'd gone on a Fri/Sat! I'll mark my calander for next weekend so I don't wonder "where's PT?" again. And a big huge thanks to Paul for all his hard work, and to Karen & Miss Hoppy for all their outstanding supervision & support to our master computer geek (I mean that in the nicest way )

The first problem occurred while importing the Pet Talk's 84th table of 84 tables into the database mysql. As I am unfamiliar with the basic layout of the database, it took a while to compare the old with the new and to come to the conclusion that everything was probably ok except for the search index table which should be rebuilt anyway because the current search engine will not find certain posts.

Reading the vBulletin support forum at four in the morning, I mislead myself when I read the fix to a similar but unrelated problem.

When there were several errors upgrading to the current version of vBulletin, I gave up, especially because I did not want Pet Talk to be down all day.

Now that I have a copy of Pet Talk on the new server that I can practice importing while also being awake, I am reasonably confident that I will be able to transfer Pet Talk on Friday without too much trouble.

    Your Dedication is without equal!!

Glad you got the PlayPen set up to "practice" in.

Ya know, "we" could prolly all agree to *let your have* Pet Talk a lil **earlier*
than 10:00 pm on Friday ... might make things go a little easier if you weren't being forced
to work into the wee hours.

Having done this exact same thing (with the added bonus of being PAID to beat my head against it lol) I understand what a huge pain in the butt this is! Vbulitin while a great program is a little iffy on the help department (at least it used to be!)

Good luck with the new server transfer! If there was a way I could do some remote assistance, Id voulunteer Its the least I can do for such a wonderful community!
