Well done! Doesn't matter if they pay minimum wage what matter is that you have got a job that pays!!

Dont forget all the experience you will gain, it shows you have initiative to get out and get a job.

Thanks everyone! Sarah, I don't know when I start. The park opens for the season XXX so maybe then. I still have to go for training and stuff.

Well Done, i hope you enjoy your new job and of course the money that come's with it, it is a good stepping stone, you learn work ethics, team work,it just give's you a real idea what it is like in the real world, also you will learn money management too, many other skills, great that you already know what you want to do and are making plans towards it, you remind me of my 15yr old, who also just got her first job, apart from her paper round, she is enjoying it too and the extra money as well, like you she also has her whole life planned out. what is the minimum wage likely to be, melissa is getting 11 dollars an hour, which i think is very good money for her age,not sure if that is the minimum here or not.

$11.00!!! The New Zealand dollar must be in even worse shape than the American dollar. The minimum wage in NJ is $7.15. No one without a valid driver's license is going to get an entry level job for $11.00 an hour. At least not in New Jersey.

According to the internet, the minimum wage here for a 16yr old is 12 dollars an hour, this has just risen this year, melissa is only 15 so i guess 11 is pretty good all round.

Sounds like a good first job. My only tip - wear good, comfortable shoes, or your feet will scream at you!

    Congrats, sounds great!

I agree with Karen about the shoes...I would add to take TWO comfy pairs with you the first few days, as changing your shoes halfway through the day can make a real difference as your feet 'fit' differently.

(Take a few bandaids too...in case you get a wee blister on your heel. Just in case.)

    Way to go!

I know this may sound weird, but my first job paid awful, but I loved it so much, it was worth getting up everyday. Like you, there were great benefits and I wound up doing well! I'm a real people person so your job would fit me perfectll! Have tons of fun! it's great experience for you (esp. dealing with the public) and it makes you strong and wise. Or I should say strongER and wisER!
