I would say too a bird... perhaps as he couldn´t go over the fence with it he went back to take another route......JMO

as for being flat tracks it could well be wings... but I think it would be a big bird so it would be dragging it as a small one could easily be carried...

Very interesting tracks. But one thing I did notice, is that there is no blood spots. Should'nt there be at least a few visible?
Nothing says love like a kitty purring in you ear

Freedom - I could see clearly that the cat stopped, dropped what ever it had, then walked around a little bit towards the fence, then picked it back up and walked back in front of my house. No marks in the snow helped me figure out what it was.
I first thought about a kitten also, but figured that the cat would not be dragging their kitten in the snow.

catmandu- There are tons of little critters around my house for cats to catch for dinner.

Abby&Buddy'sMom- I followed the tracks as far as I could and I never saw blood. (I was first looking for blood thinking it was a hurt kitty)

Thank you all for your input, I'm sure it's nothing to loose sleep over, it's just one of those things that bother you and will keep bothering you till you figure it out!

Given the time of year it is, I would guess it's a mamma kitty relocating her kittens. I've seen cats carry the kittens and they don't always get the hineys up all the way, and it would explain a lack of blood spots. Since cats have more than one kitten it would account for there being more than one set of tracks.

    Just my best guess.
