I also wanted to mention that he should only be allowed in the basement to eat and drink. I was told this- if your pet has constant access to food and water, they will have to constantly go the bathroom! Feed him in the basement if you wish, but make him come after he is done eating and go straight outside. I wouldn't let him eat again until its his scheduled time to do same.
