Yes, this is heartbreaking; one of the hazards of letting cats run. All we can do now is be thankful that the first kitty is at peace and that the second kitty is still safe.

Katie, that is so sad it breaks my heart. Those poor kitties. My heart goes out to the one left behind. Worse though, no one even took care of the little body. What is wrong with people?
ETA: I saw the same thing yesterday; a poor kitty lying on the side of the road. He/she was orange/white. RIP little one.
