He was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2004. He made a point of publicizing the urgency for men to get the antigen test for this cancer (a blood test) and the physical exam.

He did beat it back, though he and his wife Jean knew it would be a lifelong awareness and management of the illness. Sadly, lifelong was just a couple of more years.

I don't think Dan would have been squeamish about getting the physical part of the test, especially if he had known...but he probably 'felt fine'.

Please nag the men you know to get checked....especially important after 40 years of age.
