Is there something that you could do after school somewhere that you wouldn't have to wait for dad to come home and pick you up and drive you to? This way he could pick you up on his way home?

I grew up on a 100 acre farm. I did find places to work when I was a teen. I walked to a restaurant I waitressed at. It's good exercise and made me appreciate driving when I had that opportunity when I was older.

What do other kids do that live in your area and are in your situation? I'm sure you're not the only one in this situation where you live (or close to where you live).

Also, if mom doesn't work, does she get disability? She should get disability benefits or be on medicaid if she's can't work at all because of health issues. There should be some other income coming in besides dad's paycheck. If she doesn't get any benefits yet, she should apply to see what your family would be able to collect. I know some families don't like to get federal funds because of pride or whatever, but if dad only earns $10.00/hr, and he's working 40hrs a week, he's making under $19,200.00 a year before taxes. Federal poverty line is about the same, and normally they allow adults to earn a certain percentage above the poverty line and can still qualify for assistance.
