That's awful, how sad for the poor chimp. No doubt his mate will be pretty distraught, too.

I can see why this happened, though, the risk involved with a loose chimp in a public area was high, and a small child could have been seriously hurt. Then the zoo would most likely be closed down, and many of its more common animals would be culled if other accommodation could not be found. I am concerned, however, that the chimps could get out in the first place. Needs a little tightening on security if you ask me.
