All of the pups are good swimmers aren't they? I hope that won't be necessary!

I really hope for everyone's sake that OH doesn't get any more rain for at least a week. I heard there's supposed to be MORE rain though. *sigh* I hope the weather people are wrong.

    Hundreds displaced by Midwest flooding

By JOHN SEEWER, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 26 minutes ago

FINDLAY, Ohio - Firefighters and a volunteer armada navigated boats through streets awash in waist-deep water Wednesday, plucking neighbors and pets from porches as flooding that has swamped the Upper Midwest and Plains settled in Ohio.

he water forced at least 500 people to flee their homes in several northern Ohio towns. Rising water forced authorities to move about 130 inmates at the county jail in Findlay to a regional prison.

Many neighborhood rescuers showed up with canoes and kayaks wanting to help during Findlay's worst flooding in nearly 100 years. Three men in a fishing boat ferried a mother and her 2-week-old daughter along with the family dogs.

"That was the catch of the day," said Angel Sanchez, the baby's neighbor.

Milk jugs, garbage bags and soda cans floated in the murky water. Tom Woods took his 8-foot fishing boat to help float out friends stranded in the neighborhood.

"Once we got here, everybody asked us to rescue more people," he said.

The Blanchard River was 7 feet above flood stage Wednesday at Findlay, the highest since a 1913 flood, and could rise another half-foot or more, the National Weather Service said.

The rain subsided by mid-afternoon, and the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for much of the state, with temperatures expected to hit the upper 90s.

In Bucyrus, 40 miles to the southeast, nearly 9 inches of rain had fallen since Monday and at least 200 people were still out of their homes, the Crawford County Department of Emergency Management said.

"Reality is starting to set in about just how much damage there is in some of the flooded areas," said Tim Flock, director of the agency.

Gov. Ted Strickland declared states of emergency in nine counties in northwest and north-central Ohio, including Crawford County and Findlay's Hancock County.

The death toll from two storm systems — one that has spanned the Upper Midwest and another from remnants of Tropical Storm Erin in Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri — reached at least 22 on Tuesday when searchers found the body of a man tangled in a tree near Lewiston, Minn.

Flooding also continued in northern Iowa as thunderstorms dumped more heavy rain across the already water-logged region Wednesday. Three subdivisions along the Des Moines River near Fort Dodge were evacuated, and crews used rocks and sandbags to shore up a levee that had begun to give way, officials said.

The river crested at 14 feet, four feet above flood stage, and began a slow fall by midafternoon to 13.2 feet, said Penny Clayton, a spokeswoman for the city. She warned of additional rain, though.

A care center was evacuated in Humboldt, Iowa, as water poured into the basement, but no one was hurt.

Thousands of homes were damaged in Wisconsin and Minnesota as the storm swept through. A preliminary survey by the American Red Cross in Minnesota identified about 4,200 affected homes, including 256 complete losses, 338 with major damage and 475 that are still inaccessible, said Kris Eide, the state's director of homeland security and emergency management.

Preliminary damage reports in Wisconsin indicate 30 homes and 25 businesses were destroyed. Another 731 homes and 32 businesses were damaged.

In addition to the confirmed flood-related deaths, a man drowned Sunday in his mother's flooded basement in Iowa after being overcome by carbon monoxide, the state medical examiner's office said.

And in Madison, Wis., a woman and her child waiting at a bus stop at a flooded intersection were electrocuted when lightning hit a utility pole, causing a power line to fall in the water, authorities said. A bus passenger who tried to help them was also electrocuted, they said.

In Oklahoma, which recorded a gust of 82 mph and 11 inches of rain, some 300 homes and businesses were damaged in the Kingfisher area and in Caddo County in southwestern Oklahoma, officials said. According to the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, 2007 is so far the fourth-wettest on record in the state, with an average rainfall total of 31.96 inches, 8.42 inches above normal.

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.

PTers in Ohio, is everyone okay? We had another overnight rainstorm here in the Chicago area complete with lightning. More flood watches posted. This morning is a perfect day though, sunny and not too humid.

Ugh... looks like it's another part of Ohio's turn for flooding!
The very North East part of Ohio had flooding like this last year.

We received about 9 inches of rain in 24 hours!! I had a few inches in my basement. 25 bridges in Lake County were washed out and some have still not yet been replaced.
Reports said what happened last year was a 1 in 500 year event!!!
Wonder what they'll say about this flooding!

I hope everything dries up quickly!!

Yeah, that line of storms was nasty. It produced tornados here, but no local damage done to our complex. Just branches down.

    Hope it passes Findlay quickly.

well I didn't get OUT and look but there were some dogless people walking around the inside of the dog park.. The road to the park and around are open - I was able to go in and around. I didn't get out. With these extra appendages - I just didn't want to mess with it...
but I think barring any complications - we should be fine.

I bet Cinder & Smoke could tell you, as they have stayed in Findlay - and some hotels base it on the weight/size of the dog, and you're all little!

PRIOR to the Big Flood ...
Cinder, Smokey and Bowser were welcomed at:
    Super 8 Motel - Findlay
    1600 Fox St.
    US 224 & Fox Street
    Findlay, OH 45840-2708 US
    Phone: 419-422-8863

Rates were cheap *IF* you bartered for a Good Deal with the Motel Office -
usually $35.00 per night PLUS Taxes = totaled about $41.00.
(They advertise a "best rate" of $45 per single occupancy, PLUS Taxes. Don't pay that much!)

EACH Dog is "supposed to be" an extra charge of $5.00 ... I just say the WEB Site says
"dog friendly" with no mention of Extra Charges!
We've never paid the Dog surcharge!
(And now I don't "mention" the Mutts at check-in, either.)

    Now, the BAD News ...
They're CLOSED while they try to dry the place out!
They had flood water in the Basement and First Floor levels ...
STILL not accepting reservations as of Midnight Sun/Mon.
    ------------------------------------------------------------

    Another Choice:
    Red Roof Inn - Findlay
    www.redroof-findlay.com
1951 Broad Ave (North off rte 224, just east of I-75)
    Findlay, OH 45840
    CORRECTED PHONE #= (419) 424-0466

    <deep sigh>
    Monday Night Night Guy doesn't speak English so good, either ... claims they did NOT get flooded;
he said "rooms available" on Sat & Sunday nights (Sept 1 & 2) ...
"cheapest one person / one bed" was $49.00 PLUS Taxes = total of about $60.00 a night.
    I'll keep calling around.

NOTE: Their Web rates are upwards of $65.00 per night!
I've bunked with them in Toledo for about $35.00 per night with all three Mutts ...
(mitta forgotten to "mention" the Mutts ) - but they say All Red Roofs are "pet friendly".

SOME Red Roofs have feedback saying they're pretty "ratty" or antiquated ...
Toledo Inn was nice two years ago.
I Never stayed in the Findlay Red Roof.
    --------------------------------------------------

Do a Google.com search for "Findlay, OH" + Motel and you'll get tons of choices.

BE SURE to check on their Flood Condition ... the 1-800 reservation numbers
may not know if the pillows are still soggy.
