Robin and Jess: This is from my own experience, so I hope this is not construed as disrespectful:
I divorced in 1988. The marriage was quite short, but still was a kick in the gut.
A few weeks later, a friend I had known for almost 20 years sent me a "divorce" card - they were just coming into vogue then. On the front of the black card were big metallic red capital letters spelling out: "D-I-V-O-R-C-E". In smaller letters: "It's not a pretty word, but remember...." (open card)
"...it's worth 13 points in Scrabble."
