Yikes! Good thing you were prepared for that! In a lighter vein, years ago when I had dogs, I was towel drying Charmin, my peke-a-poo after a bath and she liked it when I roughed her up a bit. I put the towel over her head and jostled her and she would always bite the towel and we'd tussle w/it a bit. Well! When I pulled the towel off her head, one of her eyeballs was partially out of the socket! I didn't know what to do so I instinctively pushed it back in, called my vet hysterical and he very calmly said "That happens sometimes w/Pekingese dogs. Did you push the eyeball back in?" I told him that I did but I wanted to bring her in RIGHT NOW for him to check her over to make sure I hadn't done any damage. We put Charmin on the exam table and he said "Is this what happened?" and he popped her eyeball partially out of the socket again. I weakly said "Yes. Oh god, did I do damage now and is it going to do that a lot?" He said "No, it'll probably never happen again, especially now that you know about it and will be watching for it." Needless to say, I never roughed up Charmin after her bath again.
