We returned to the vet this morning. Chestnut's blood work shows he is healthy! His white cell count is slightly elevated, and his temp is 103.2. He is now on clavamox. He was lots more vocal today!![]()
The vet expalined there is something called "fever induced illness" which felines get. They don't know what causes it. Seems to runits course in 7 to 10 days. About 25% of all pet cats get it. In household of 10, one maybe 2 will gt t, so they aren't even sure if it is contagious. Virus? Bacterium? No one knows.
And the little son of a gun, in spite of eating less than half a can of a/d in 72 hours, he hasn't lost a single hundredth of an ounce! The vet said they are very efficient little bodies and, not moving about, he doesn't need to take in much. The whole body just slows down.
So we just wait and see, he should be over the worst of it. The vet is guessing his fever "broke" this morning. At 7:30 AM he was the worst I've seen him. I was on the phone in a flash, which is how we ended up with another appointment. By 10:30 in the exam room, he was the best he has been in 4 days! Silly boy, scaring mom half to death!
And by the way, I took Ruffles along and had her weighed. She is coming to the end of her month on meds and they wanted a weight before they decide what to continue and what to stop. At the lowest, in that horrible week in June, she was 6.09 pounds. Today she is 7.2 pounds and a happy, HUNGRY girl! The vet would like her just about 8 pounds, is what she said this morning.
