Matted fur

I live in Lethbridge, Alberta. I saw a few ads for cat groomers around, I even saw one that will come to me and does the grooming out of a truck...

I had to order that Furminator brush online as it is sold in any stores here in Lethbridge so I'll give that a try once it comes in and if that doesn't do the trick, I guess she'll have to get shaved. Poor thing, she'll be so embarrassed

I did read somewhere that the fur helps keep them cool so it's not usually recommended to shave them in the summer.

Oh thats good you have found some. I wouldn't go with the truck one. I personally think there is not enough ventalation in those things and not enough room.
If you do get her shaved tell her how beautiful she looks not that she looks silly. If you tell her she look wondeful she will think she looks wonderful.
Yes the fur dose keep them cool but only if it is brushed out and the skin can breath. In your case it is not and so it only makes him hotter.
Watch with the Furminator that you don't go over the same spot too much because all it is, is a clipper blade so going over the same spot multiple times will cause razor burn.

I use the MatBreaker

The cats don't exactly love it, but used carefully (you have to work slowly) it works very well to get the matts out quickly and gently.

You got this at Petco? I'm not sure if we have any around here or not. Maybe Pet Supplies Plus has it. It looks like it might do the trick. I do like the Furminator, though.

Yup, got the MatBreaker @ Petco. The sales assistant said it's the best there is. It works really well.

Well, the Furminator doesn't de-shed Smudge any faster than a loop blade followed with a slicker, but he sure enjoys it! He also wanted me to hold it steady while he rubbed a zit on it, which I still thought was better than whacking at said zit with his claws, so I went with it until my back said "ahem, you have to stand up straight now."

So - feels great, and certainly no less filling...

I had the same trouble with Brody until I discovered the Furminator. Not only is she mat free her coat is in lovely condition too
