My current 1/4 Lab, 1/2 GP, 1/4??? had a fettish for phone books. I could have several piles of papers laying around on the floor and a phone book next to them. The phone book would get shredded everytime. Although she also liked to munge around on paper back books. My solution was to use the Yellow Pages CD the phone company sends out, and give up on Phone books. I know of a party whose yellow lab took keen delight in eating toilet paper. He theorized the dog was sort of wiping itself inside out.

Most likely it's a combination of two things: Possible boredom and the need to chew. Labs like to chew on things. A rawhide chip will work wonders. Also Labs are pigs- they like to eat, and that includes anything. Again a timely rawhide chewy might help. Depending on the weight, age, around 4 yrs old a Lab's metabolism slows down with some weight gain. That's the time to switch from a performance to a lower protein/fat formula. It also will allow you to give more volume to keep the tummy full.
