What a cute little turtle! I would have been tempted to let him stay. I guess that wouldn't have been the smart thing to do with little terriers running around, huh?

My dad reeeeally wanted to keep him in the little pond thing. Then he kept telling me that Mini found it so she should get to keep it. But I'm afraid he would have been turtle soup in no time!!

Ashley, I LOVE your Hoodlum stories and great pictures!

This has nothing to do with the story..but..while I'm here..I have to say that everytime I see Mini and her ears and concentration, I'm kinda convinced that Mz Klo must have JRT in her by her digging and critter catching expertise! I noticed purple markings on Mini's tongue..Logan has some too!!

OMG! The expression on that turtle's face in the photo after Min's "She likes to EAT them", is soooo funny!

Great series of photos. Is that the Grand River where you let the little guy go?

We had a female Painted Turtle lay eggs next to our driveway one year. Very cool experience. We tended the nest (kept the ground moist) and assisted the little hatchlings when they began to dig out.

Glad you guys liked the tale, Mini misses her "friend" and continued searching for a long time, but we did re-stock "her" pond up with fishing minnows again from the bait shop so hopefully she'll forget about the turtle entirely. (Every Thursday the bait shop gives us all of their old, dying minnows for free because they get a new shipment in on Fridays) But they're like elephants...they never forget ANYTHING!!

And Karen, It is entirely possible that Klo has some JRT in her!

Kimmy, that's actually Sycamore Creek, it runs in front of and behind our house! That would be a neat experience!

What a cute story! I've never seen such a BIG painted turtle - the only ones I've seen are the little quarter-size dime-store pets. sure is handsome! I love the expression on Mini's face too - what a good girl to leave it alone.
There was a big turtle sitting outside our kennel fence once for a couple days, and Sherman dug & dug & dug, trying to reach under the fence at it, but it was a smart turtle too and kept its distance!

Well no wonder you have so many critters passing through!

There is a small pond in the farmers field across the road (Barnes Rd.) at my parents house and to the south is a stretch of swamp land, so now and then they get critters passing through.

We'd probably get more if it weren't for those darn dogs But we have deer too that show up behind our fence. Micki really loves to jump the fence and chase them too
