Medusa, I agree. Way too much tragedy lately. We're going to be extremely careful with this little guy obviously - I can't deal with any more accidents. That being said, our dogs are about as gentle as they come. They play regularly with our 5 ferrets, and are awesome about being gentle with cats and all small animals. But we will be safe with the introductory period to make sure that they are the same with this guy as they were with Commie. Cheddar looks like a maniac in that picture - I can't wait to meet him. It looks like we won't be getting him until June 9th (which seems like a lifetime away!) but that's ok. He needs to be transported here, and I'm having him sent on a transport where I actually know the driver of it, so he will receive the best care possible along the way. He needs to go have his shots done, and receive his health certificate for interstate travel (state laws and such). We'll be giving Max a lot of pets and hugs and snuggles so that he doesn't feel so lonely between now and then.

Also, I just got some weird news. A number of years ago, I lost my job and was being evicted from an apartment I was living in. I had 3 cats at the time, and by a stroke of good luck, was able to place all 3 of them in a home together, which was awesome. They went to live with a Doctor who my mother works with. The other day, my mother told the Doctor that I now own my home, and he said "Oh yeah? Does she by any chance want to take Baby back?" I didn't ask him for my cats back when I bought my house because I didn't think it was fair to subject the cats to bouncing them around like that, or fair to his family to do that to them. He has 2 young children, and I felt like it would be wrong to take a cat from them who they had bonded with. However, in his words, Baby is not "integrating well with the family". I don't know the details yet, but it looks like I'll be getting Baby back She was my very first cat ever, and she's a sweetie. She is a light grey tiger cat with green eyes - I'll see if I can find some pictures of her. If not, I will post some when she gets here. I hope she remembers me

Well, I'm just catching up on this thread. First of all, I am SOO sorry about Commodus. That is a horrible thing and I'm sorry you had to go through it.

On the other hand, I am happy you will be getting his brother, Cheddar. He does look a LOT like Commodus.

And even more great news about your first ever cat, Baby!! See, this is all happening for a reason. I am thinking the young Commodus was on a mission to help you get TWO more kitties.

I can't wait for pictures of Cheddar AND Baby!!!
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

I just now saw this thread and I'm in shock. Even though I didn't get to know Commie very well, I fell in love with him instantly. I'm also a big orangie lover so being orange helped but it was his personality that really made me love him. I'm so sorry for your loss. Commie will be missed but never forgotten and I know that you'll see each other again some day. RIP sweet Commie.

I'm so glad to hear that you're able to adopt Commie's brother Cheddar. Hopefully he'll fit in as well as Commie did with the rest of your furkids. I can't wait to see new pictures of him.

It's also great to hear that you'll be getting Baby back. She sounds gorgeous and will also hopefully fit in well.

That's a awful way to go andreally sad you saw it happen. R.I.P little kitten.

I hope Chedder brings you guys some joy after loosing Commodus. I love the name by the way.

I would at least cuss the women out.
What would that do? It's not going to bring Commodus back and it's her friend. The dogs did nothing wrong anyways. They are dogs and a Jack Russle at that they are terriors bred for hunting small animals. It's not the dogs fault and 2 wrongs don't make a right. Meaning just cause the dog killed the kitten dosen't mean it should lose it's life.

Thank you guys for all of the sweet posts. I've been brought to tears reading this thread more times than you know - and not just because I miss our baby so much, but because so many people have been so, so kind to me during this difficult time. I just joined this forum a a few months ago after being introduced by Freedom, but it's already so apparent the high quality of people we have here - I really want everyone to know how much it has helped to be able to talk to fellow pet folks like me. Some people just don't get it.

Today I was in line getting a coffee and I was sifting through my wallet for money, and a card fell out of my wallet onto the counter at Dunkin Donuts. I looked down, and it was an appointment card for a vet visit that I had made for Commie. I burst into tears standing right there, and had no idea what to ever do with myself. I just stood there crying, and everyone looked at me like I was a total nut case. There must have been 10-15 people in there, just stunned, looking at me. Then out of nowhere, an older woman standing behind me just gave me this big hug, without even saying anything. She looked at the card on the counter, handed it back to me, and looked at me like she just knew what was going on. She said "Sometimes, animals touch us in ways people just can't". I'm so grateful that she was there, because if she wasn't, I would probably still be standing there crying, without a clue what to do.

I'm counting the days until we get Cheddar. Last night I got an email from the woman who raised him and Commie, and she said that they were "2 of a kind" and that Cheddar's personality was so similar to Commie's. I'm not trying to replace him, but I think it will be really comforting to have a similar cat to remind us of him.

    Thanks for listening everyone. ((HUGS))

Edit - Also, I found out this morning that we may not be getting Baby back. When the father told his kids that he was going ot give her back to me, his son got very, very upset, and told him "You don't just GIVE UP a member of your family". At least they raised him right! I would never want to take her from them, if it isn't what they wanted. Clearly the kids are bonded to her, and I want to do what's best for everyone.
