No, he usually doesn't get too sunbleached. But in the winter when his hair grows out it is always brown. If you look on the picture where he is brown is his winter hair. In the summer he is completly black. You'd think it would be the other way around with the seasons!

No, he isn't used only for barrel racing. I do jumping figure 8, keyhole, pole bending, barrel racing, back alley jumping, and once a year I'll do Western pleasure and horsemanship, and halter classes just to get the points, but he's not very good at it. Our main events are keyhole and barrel racing, that's what he usually wins at.
