Running shoes?

NO, I'm not gonna start running, but I do need some soft comfy shoes to walk in. If I walk more than about an hour, my feet hurt underneath (my heels and in the middle). Even on days when I don't walk much.

So, I went and tried some on in a sports shop yesterday, the ones I liked the best - out of their pretty small selection was the these.

They would cost $183 in Denmark.

Later on, I found some more on this website. I really like the ones in this link, and there seem to be more room for the toes.

I have narrow feet, and I need some which are not too warm.

Have any of you tried any of them, or can you suggest others?

I could also get some sandals with "air" cushions in instead. Hmm!

Your problem might be solved with an insert if you have an unusually high arch. I know that if I wear shoes without good arch support I get VERY sore in the heel and arch too. It's worth a try and would certainly cost less than a brand new pair of shoes that may or may not help!

I'm a New Balance fan also. The 811 is a one color walking shoe and doesn't have all those flashy colors as the running shoes do. I also take a narrow.

I have to.

Would a strictly running type shoe be good for walking too?
Most of the ones I've tried are too heavy & clunky for me.

Thanks, I'll have a look at some of the New Balance too.

Sirrahsim, yes what I need is probably some inserts, but having them meassured to fit your foot is really expensive, so thought I'd try to find some comfy ones.

Liz, I'm not sure but I had a pair of Nike Air many years ago, they were so comfy to walk in. The soles they make today look like €%#&? and some of them do look quite clunky and heavy. I also hate that some have 3-4 different colours - which don't even go together.

I'm looking for the 811... so far, I've found every other number but 811.

My hubby has unusually high arches (Think Lon Chaney's Wolfman

) and had a lot of foot problems. Mostly due to not taking proper care of them when he was young and on them all day and night.

You can get walking shoes, running shoes, cross training shoes.

I use cross-trainers because those are best for the type of exercise I do. The are made for side to side as well as front to back movement. I put off- the-rack arch supports in them sometimes if my feet are bothering me. I went to an orthopedic doctor when I had a problem and he said off-the-rack as nearly as good as custom.

Randi....I have heard New Balance are great for narrow feet. They are very popular in the Jazzercise set...

I have worn Reebok classics for years. I have 2 pair, a white and a black, and alternate eachday. (I have one pair of "good" shoes for special occassions.)

They come in leather and nylon. I have used both.

Walking shoes are not really made for walking. If you're looking for a confortable walking shoe, stick with a cross-trainer or even a running shoe. "Walking shoes" offer nothing good for your feet.

New Balance offers more support, and more variety. I'm constantly being told by my customers that they are now die-hard NB customers after having only tried one pair. The higher the number (336 vs. 811) the better the shoe.

Reebok Renaissance and Classics are still great shoes. Most people pass them up because they look "cheap".

Nike's are great for narrow feet. The Shox and the Reax are the best for support.

Adidas is really making strides with their shoes. (no pun intended) They've come a long way just in the last year. I've personally never liked them, but some people swear by them.

Whatever you do, don't buy your shoes online! Go to a store where you can have your feet measured (don't just measure one. Everyone has 1 foot bigger than the other) Always try on both shoes and walk around in them for awhile in the store.

Shoes really are an investment that play a part in your health. You should make sure you're making an informed decision.

I've got a pair of Propét sneakers on as I'm typing this post. This is my second pair of Propét in a row. I've found them to be extremely comfortable and durable.

I have a co-worker here who swears by Rockport walking shoes. I haven't had success with Rockports because I have the opposite problem - almost completely flat feet.

I didn't notice whether they had New Balance in the shop I went to, but I'll have a look around in different shops and try some more on, until I find some really comfy ones. It seems there are shoes for almost all kinds of feet.

I had problems some years ago, after a lot of walking around in Barcelona. My doctor said that the fat small children have on their heels tend to dissapear as you grow older and that can cause problems.

This is one of my feet by the way - the one to the left with nailpolish on.

Another New Balance fan here. I have very narrow feet and I also like to walk/hike a lot.

Randi--I have hiking boots for any significant amount of walking. They are the short kind that just cover my ankles. They're called Day Hikers. The ankle support really makes a difference when you're going to be walking for over an hour.

A good hiking boot takes a while to break in, but when it does it molds to YOUR foot.
