Sirrahsim, yes what I need is probably some inserts, but having them meassured to fit your foot is really expensive, so thought I'd try to find some comfy ones.

Liz, I'm not sure but I had a pair of Nike Air many years ago, they were so comfy to walk in. The soles they make today look like €%#&? and some of them do look quite clunky and heavy. I also hate that some have 3-4 different colours - which don't even go together.

My hubby has unusually high arches (Think Lon Chaney's Wolfman ) and had a lot of foot problems. Mostly due to not taking proper care of them when he was young and on them all day and night.
