Nope....not even like pigs....they are a marsupial, and carry their young in a pouch, which is a little odd in wombats, as the pouch faces backwards, not forwards like kangaroos etc. They are pretty closely related to koala bears.

What fun to see the video- I didn't know they got that big! I have only seen them in nature videos, never next to something like a human where i could tell how big they are. Hee heee! Thanks for sharing!

She is adorable, but she sure didn't like being told "no." But she does like having her head scratched. I guess I assumed that you wouldn't be allowed to keep one as a pet.

Not supposed to have one as a pet....no. But Donna is a foster mum...obviously picked up "Digger" when quite young and not being able to fend for itself. Authorities tend to turn a blind eye toward such people, but do insist that you let them go back into the wild when they are fully grown, which I'm not sure is such a great thing in "Diggers" case.
On our farm when I was a kid, we kept lots of baby kangaroos that way....nailed a sugar bag onto a fence....they'd dive into that when they wanted sleep.....but as they got older, they sort of moved away naturally.
Some we spotted from time to time near the homestead, and others we never seen again.......so it's sort of beneficial to give them a bit of both worlds.
