my only male cat, magic, has to approach you for affection. if you try to pet him, or worse, pick him up, you get hissed at and he runs. he's most affectionate when i'm on the computer, or in bed. he will join the others in yowling for food or treats, but don't touch him. OTOH, his mother, mojo, is ms pick me up and adore me, human. cats are a mystery
