Just for poos and giggles, here's the clearly non-deceptive quote in a bit of context:

“ Two thousand years ago the proudest boast was civis romanus sum [I am a Roman citizen]. Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is 'Ich bin ein Berliner'...All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words 'Ich bin ein Berliner!' „

That's a bit different than, for example, Hilary becoming a Jew after taking a huge hit in the polls for getting cozy with the Arafats, and having campaign workers and multiple witnesses confirm they'd heard her use ethnic slurs towards a Jewish politician, and a lack of support for Israel.
