Gorgeus fishies! I remeber seeing pictures of Queen when you first joined. She doesn't look like the same fish! Still beautiful either way!

I love your female bettas. What size tank are they in? If Ariel survives and they are in a big enough space you might want to get another female. Always have female bettas in odd numbers.
Thanks so much Ashley for the siggy!

Thanks for sending the baby GF pics! They are cute even though it is hard to see them too well! I hope Ariel gets ok! It's funny how Queen's orange color faded away! I have a fish that was black orange and white, and he lost all his colors and now he's a plain white gold fish too. He's not as big as Queen though!

I think some goldfish change their color as they get a certain age, Queen is probably 3 or 4 counting when I didn't have her. But it's okay, white goldfish are very pretty too

I know for sure now that Ariel is not going to make it. She's on her last strings. Her gills have been damaged I think, they seem to be bleeding, and their is alot of other red blood marks on her sides too I am really sorry that this happened. I had been looking up and asking questions about female bettas for awhile, and sites and people always said female bettas get along, but I never heard that there had to be about 5 or so.

I wish I would've known, then I wouldn't have gotten two. I hope Ariel passes on peacefully. Ursela will have to be an alone betta. I have only a 1 and a half gallon tank so I wouldn't be able to fit more than two in there.

Althought Ursela doesn't seem to care...she loves being alone. I can't believe such little fishies can be so fiesty

I'm sorry to hear that about ariel. I know you didn't mean to let it happen though. I thought all female bettas got along too. I use to have one female betta and I put her in with my male betta thinking they would get along! A few hours later I came back to check in on them and he had bitten her all over! I later found out you shouldn't put a male in with just one girl. She lived and got ok though. Her name was Scarlet. I had her for several years.

I am so glad that the little girl lived for you That is good news. Bettas definately have a aggression drive.

Well she's still alive today everyone. She is certainly a fighter. I still don't think she is going to survive, but you never know, fish can surprise you. I did a treatment on her this morning. I dont' know if anyone has ever heard of this, but to heal a fish sore you can take the fish out of the tank for a few seconds of course and take a Q-tip dipped in Iodine and put the tip of the q-tip on the sore on the fish and then put the fish back in.

I have used that on my goldfish when they got sores in their fins and it heals them up so nicely.

Has anyone ever heard of that method before?

As far as I knew, iodine is highly toxic for fish. Where did you hear of this method?

You can have female bettas in pairs. Some bond real strong. Yet still some females are just killers and don't like to be housed with anybody. I have 6 females right now, but when forming a group I probably went through ten before getting a group that doesn't fight. The store was used to me bringing back the aggressors if they wouldn't stop fighting within a few days. I only had one fight get so bad as to have two girls kill a third before I could get her out of the tank. Next time you try, watch them closely to see that initial fighting isn't leading to any real injury outside of tail and fin shredding.

What kind of filter do you have for your goldfish tank? Even though your bioload is huge, a strong filter and weekly water changes should keep the water parameters at a safe level and prevent clouding.

I used to have several female bettas, but they never bothered each other. I had about five or six of them in a 55 gallon tank, though, with lots of other fish.

Wow! I bet that tank was really pretty looking. You could fit quite a lot of tropical fish in a 55 gallon

And I thought I would inform everyone that Ariel is still hanging in there. It's very sad because I know she is going to die, her gills are red and look like they are bleeding, and a sore on her back is almost eating away at her skin..I can't believe what a fish can do to another fish...poor little girl. I really hope she passes soon, because I hate seeing her in pain.

Ursela loves living in a tank on her own though lol, she must be a mean anti-social fishy.

What did your sister name her betta???
    Poor Ariel.
    Some females are just aggressive.
I would never put my girl Coral in a tank with other fish.Coral is very aggressive and flares at Liberty. My other girl Tugboat(Rest in Peace)was very easy going and didn't care about seeing my boys.

I don't think I can spell it right, but she named it Dirkts, it's the name of one of her favorite bands lead singer I think. Definately a unique name for a betta. she would have pictures up by now but our family is over from far away so she is quite busy with them...of course I'm just a PT addict so nothing can keep me off the internet for at least 1 hour or 2 a day
