This is the most heartbreaking story I have ever read. I can't even imagine how you must feel. But if Alex isn't himself, as you say, then the time is drawing very near when you must do the last act of kindness for him. He has felt and is feeling your love and warmth and the companionship of this fur buddies. But it's heart wrenching to think that he's scared and wondering why he feels the way he does.
