The first one would be good but I suspect they won't be wanting your lamp and couch and such in the background. Are you allowed to blank out background using photoshop or whatever? Maybe just blank it out so there is nothing destracting?
I also suggest sorting his eyes out in that shot. Thats the problem with flash.

The other alternative is to take more photos outside in natural light but be sure to make sure you aren't looking down at him. You might need to lay on the floor or have the dog sitting on something higher so that his face is at the same level as yours and make sure there is good light on his face. A bright but overcast day is best. The light is more diffused and prevents harsh contrast ad shadows that sun causes.
