I can't bear it; I just can't bear it: more of this "cat as dog" stuff. So many people think their cats are like dogs - that ought to be a clue, maybe. Maybe these stereotypes about cold, arrogant, cats and warm, loving, dogs are just that - stereotypes; and all these cats who are reputedly like dogs are not at all like dogs, but are like cats. Bastet has a great personality not because she is like a dog but because she is a cat - all cat, 100 percent cat, no dog involved.
And while I'm bashing stereotypes, let me bash another: this man-dog, woman-cat thing. I AM A MAN, A REAL, GENUINE, MAN WHO DOES MANLY THINGS AND MY BEST FRIEND (save for my wife, of course) HAS INTERRUPTED THE WRITING OF THIS DIATRIBE SEVERAL TIMES BY CRAWLING ONTO MY LAP AND NUZZLING MY FACE AND FOREHEAD AND IS NOW SITTING ATOP MY MONITOR AND HE IS NOT AT ALL A DOG, HE IS 100 PERCENT CAT AND HE IS A BLACK CAT AND THERE IS NO EVIL IN HIM, THOUGH THERE IS MISCHIEF. HE IS ALL GOOD. ONE COULD SPEND THEIR WHOLE LIVE VISITING CHURCHES OF EVERY DENOMINATION AND NEVER FIND AN INDIVIDUAL AS GOOD AS THIS BLACK CAT.
There. Now, let me praise Bastet as a beautiful little lion who, like all cats, knows she is special and, I am certain, knows that the person who loves her is also special, and so forgives all this nonsense about her being part dog.
The black cat and I will now go to bed, where we will be joined by my wife. Any other cat who lives here is also welcome to join us, but not the kitten and certainly not the dog. I love the dog dearly, but she is big and likes to wallow in mud and dead, rotting, smelly, moose and at night she shakes her ears and farts some really terrible farts and so not only must she sleep on the floor, she must sleep out in the hall.
