We had a basset hound for 15 years. She was very sweet. The only time aggressiveness was an issue, was when someone would come in the house without being invited and let in by her people. She was very loving, and got along well with the other dogs and cats. She was even an excellent chaperone. When my boyfriend would come over, and sit down by me on the couch, she would promptly hop up and wedge herself between us IMHO you can't go wrong with a basset.
