But what are the opinions on use of venison or other game besides the lack of fat with in the meat..![]()
I have not hunted for years but have a in-law that does and gives us venison every fall. It goes into jerky since I am the only one that eats it in our house...
I am just curious, and I know that changing the meat may cause upset too.. And I am also curious on the issue of parasite from the wild game.
Let me step back now.. I am hoping this does not get off of the subject for wich it was started..

Corgis are energetic, agile, intellegent,
lively, cheerfull, sturdy and loyal...
So in otherwords a corgi can be a
short stocky never ending fur ball
of fun..What the not so understanding
may call a pain in the rear...
I dont think anyone would jump on you for asking a question! Heck it is a good one, cause i dont know the answer myself! I think it is a fab question, and I will be waiting patiently for the answer!Originally Posted by corgieguy

Very good question- I have venison because of the lack of fat to be awfully rich. I can give it, but only a little bit.. I have never found having different meat is a problem- in game meat, you do not feed the intestines or liver .. All game meat is frozen prior to use to be safe. I never give it "fresh" without first being frozen for at least 48 hours..Originally Posted by corgieguy
makes sense! so what do you consider a little???Originally Posted by borzoimom

Unlike borzoimom I would feed the organs as well. As long as you freeze it solid for a week, it will kill any parasites that the deer may have carried. If it were me I'd feed a regular meal sized portion or possibly a small amount of boneless meat (1/2 lb or so) with an easy meal like a chicken quarter and then I'd just watch my dogs' stool for any problems.
We feed hearts- not livers but the reason is that in the valley they use alot of pesticides on their crops. That of course is retained in the liver. Where it not for the farmers below- I would as well.Originally Posted by .sarah
My sister gave me some venison that had gotten old. I gave my fur kids a regular sized meal. They went nuts for it, they had no problems with it at all.Originally Posted by .sarah
I wish I could get some more for them.

As I said I have been feeding RAW since 79,
my guys get in the course of a year.....
Venison
Chevron
Mutton
Lamb
Beef
Pork
Buffalo
Duck
Geese
Chicken
Elk
Moose
Ostrich
Emu
they get all of the portions, organs , lights and brains.
as for the ostrich and the Emu, I have a friend that raises them in Ga. she brings with her a huge amount of what is usaleable to humans ie hearts lights etc. so I usually ahve a gift from her that will last me a few months.
this list of course doesnt include the eggs, yogurts, and treats and some veggies that they get.

Chevron is goat meat, and the farm is down by savannah on an island her family still owns, and she sells to a wholesaler, not sure if she does private sales. I have known her for years so she saves the offals from the butchering for me. I can ask if she sells to private buyers, and also a list of stores that carry it, I do know it rather expensive, compared to beef or lamb.
Also, you may want to contact beefalo breeders, and slaughter houses, they often will sell the offal also.

I feed venison too. I do not give much because with these guys, the lack of fat makes it rich- but they love it!
