"Dichloroacetate" does not make sense as a chemical name. I'm leary about any compounds containing chlorine; I smell fish about this.

I am not sure about this but I did find the original article. It is part of a site called newscientist.com which claims on their main page to be the world's #1 science and technology news service. Anyway....

    ....here it is

You eat a compound containing chlorine everyday. It's called salt. I believe that this is the real deal. It's mentioned in the wikipedia article, and on the University of Alberta site.

New Scientist are fairly reputable. Isn't it ironic, that the possible cure/more effective treatment for cancer can't be patented? That's fantastic, everyone, although it's going to cause issues at first, it means the drug companies can't charge a hefty fee for it *oh yeah, victory dance time* ... could you just imagine what those scums would charge for a cancer "cure"?????

Let's hope that someone helps get this off the ground. I'm sure they won't be short of volunteers wanting to give it a go.

I sure would love for the cure to be that simple. My fiance's mom has cancer...it would be so awesome if we could get our hands on some of that "miracle drug" that nobody wants to talk about. I hate it how they won't bring it out to the public because they will "loose" money. I guess those morons would rather see people die then get well and live a healthy happy life. They stink!!!

Heck, they give us medicines that cause us to get sick when it is suppose to make us well, their medicines kill and disable healthy people... They don't want us healthy, they would go broke. A cheap cure for cancer... I hope someone puts this stuff on every shelf at every drug store and wal mart just to show the big parma's! Just think of the money they are making from the people with cancer....everybody profits!

Hey folks, the article does say that research is continuing into this matter, scientists are pursuing it. There's no conspiracy against it.

Considering how many kinds of cancer there are, how varied the causes and effects are, I doubt any one thing could "cure" them all.

From the original article, probably added after it was posted here:

    EDITORS NOTE:

Since the original publication of this article we have been inundated with responses from the public at all walks of life. It is important to note that research is ongoing with DCA, and not everyone is convinced it will turn out to be a miracle drug. There have been many therapies that were promising in vitro and in animal models that did not work for one reason or another in humans. To provide false hope is not our intention. There is a lot of information on DCA available on the web, and this column is but one opinion on the topic. We hope you will do your own research into the situation. So, we have added links to resources at the end of this column. If you are arriving here form a linking website like Fark, then those links will not appear because they tend to grab only the text. For those visitors, here is a link to the original research: www.depmed.ualberta.ca/dca
