Plastic update: he also ate THIS! p.3

I reached his vet. He told me to give him LOTS and LOTS of fiber tonight, but not to overfeed. (??Didn't really say how much to feed him.)
I mashed a banana into a cup of high-fiber cereal and fed him some. I'll give it to him again in 15 minutes or so. His vet said that usually dogs pass things like this with no problem. I just have to keep an eye on him & his stool for signs of trouble, and be ready to take him in if he gets distressed.

I just talked to his vet last week, and we've been working on changing how I feed Sherman because he's gotten into the habit of inhaling his food. So now I only feed him a small portion, but several times a day. I think he was just plain hungry. I also just found a chewed up empty bag of Yummie Chummies under the table. It was half full earlier tonight. This is the first time he's ever chewed anything up like this & ate it.

For his eating habits- check into that bowl called " Break-fast".. Its a bowl that has like cones in the bottom that forces the dog to take their time to get the food out verses gulping. I have several people that got this bowl, and the results have been great. http://www.brake-fast.net/

Oh Sherman, how could that possibly taste good? It sounds like you have gotten some good advice and are following through. Here's hoping that there will be a smoothe passage for that piece of plastic. When Bella was a puppy she ate part of a wooden clothespin that my hubby was using to keep a bag of potato chips closed. I spent quite some time scrutinizing doggie poops after that (my neighbors probably thought I was a little funny in the head as I would take a stick and sort of disect it.....TMI LOL!). At least with snow on the ground it should make your hunt a little easier. Hope Sherman will do just fine.

It was COLD outside when I had to do the Two-Dawg "poop check" for chickin bonez

After freezing my butt off *finding* (with a flashlight) and *sticking* mid-night poohs ...
I discovered the "magic of the baggie"!
* Turn a baggie inside out
* Use it like a poop-scoop bag - your hand INside the baggie
* RE-Turn the baggie outside in - (poop IN, hand out) - **Zip** the baggie!!
* retire to the warmth of the garage
* gently *kneed* the bagged stuff ... looking & feeling for the sought-after "prize"

No MUSS, No Phuss, No STINK, easy disposal!

All that experience at the dogpark with poop bags is paying off. I nabbed his morning deposit and brought it in to thaw. Poking around was very productive...
several bits of blue plastic (the feeding scoop),
some bits of plastic of indetermined color (not sure what its from),
a piece of foil (the Yummie Chummie package perhaps?)
and one that threw me for a loop -
a green vinyl star about 1/2 " across! I have no idea what that came from .
Sherman got some more high fiber this morning. I'm still a bit worried about the big chunk coming through, but things look promising. At least the "traffic" is moving!

Phred this is a great idea! My only thought was that for this type of *operation* I would be sure to use the very best (brings to mind a Hallmark commercial). In other words, a Glad baggie or something reliable like that - no dollar store baggies that might *fail* for that job!

Pat, I am glad you are finding pieces of plastic. We will keep our fingers crossed that Sherman's plumbing keeps moving things right along. I am now thinking that, with all of the other things that you have found, we all might be in for a surprise if we did sporadic poop exams!

Sherman! Such a time you've had Please don't eat things your mom hasn't picked out for you. I want to see your sweet face on my monitor for a long, long time. Ask your mom to please give you and Star a great, big hug for me.

So far, it's been very small bits of platic that are showing up. This morning there are some much larger pieces - like 3/4" long and curved - I'm hoping this is the plastic with the loop end of the cup. Sherman also threw up some clear liquid this morning - he's never done that before. I would think that with 3 days of non-stop high fiber, (with plenty of results ), if he had a blockage, nothing would have gotten through. If he throws up again, I'll check with the vet.

Nobody needs to respond, I'm posting to make myself feel less worried. It's probably nothing.

It's a little late to suggest this ... but have you "saved" the pieces of plastic?
You could get an idea of how much of the missing cup has been "accounted for" -
and how much could still be "undergoing procesing" inside Sherman.

As long as the "production line" is still pushing out "product" ... it's a good sign!

Do you feel "less worried"?
I bet not ... but TRY not to worry (too much).
