A friend sent me this when Preacher died. I think it's perfect...

    "It came to me
that every time I lose a dog
they take a piece of my heart with them.
    And every new dog
    who comes into my life
gifts me with a piece of their heart.
    If I live long enough,
all the components of my heart
    will be dog,
and I will become as generous
    and loving as they are."
If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you must find the courage to live it.

I love that! It's a sweet poem. I know it will take a lot of dogs to replace what Duke took from me.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

The poem is wonderful. This tribute is wonderful. Keep your spirits up, it sounds like Preacher did his job and did it well. He gave Franklin the strength to be a dog. What a gift to give a friend.
