How do you play w/him? If you rub his belly, this could be a sexual thing to him whether he's neutered or not. If so, stop rubbing his belly. And don't declaw.

Soft Paws and an oven mitt

My big guy is normally gentle when he plays, but every so often he gets SUPER aggressive and uses his needles of pain to save the world from evil kitty toys (aka my hand, feet or any other body party that is moving his toys). The solution: Soft Paws...they are like press-on-nails for cats. One box ($20 CDN) lasts 3 weeks or so, then you remove them when they get loose (or fall off). They don't hurt the cat, and it prevents them from getting overly "affectionate"...

Also, I bought a large oven mitt at the dollar store (the pet store ones are super expensive) and when he gets super aggressive, I put it on and rub his belly...He wraps his paws around, kicks it with his back legs vigorously for awhile, gets tired and leaves it alone...Doing this once a week has really calmed down his playtimes from WWE to Amazing Race.
