Thank goodness he is with a good vet! I think the surrender/surgery would be a good idea. This was done with a cat in BC, and the owners just could not afford the surgery. But when it was surrendered, the money comes from a different place.
I guess the vet could call the breeder too - but this sounds like the best solution for all concerned.

I think surrendering is the only thing we can do. At least he won't have to die right? When I found out he was with this vet, I felt so relieved. I remember times when an owner would bring their pet in wanting to put it down - the vet refused. He would treat them and put them up for adoption
I am going to talk to DH tonight (he is on afternoon shift 3PM-11PM) about surrendering him. Then he just has to go to the vet clinic and sign some papers to make it official. My boy isn't going to die - he doesn't deserve to anyway.

I am so relieved and I know you are, too. I hope Bailey will recover and then find a home that will love him. The vet sounds like a good one.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
I miss you
I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.
Fur as dark as the night.
Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

I'm glad he's going to be treated. Sorry you have to surrender him. Hopefully he'll find a great forever home.
